The Pößnecker is one of the oldest and steepest via ferratas in the Dolomites and is located just before the Sella Pass (2218m) in the valley Val Gardena. It was built in 1912 and renovated in 2020. However, it is still one of the most challenging via ferratas in the region. Advanced via ferrata climbers will have real fun as it is rated with difficulty “D”.
The via ferrata Pößnecker offers steep and exposed passages. It sometimes reminds me of a well-designed alpine route. It cleverly winds its way up between intersections, slabs and behind towers. But the via ferrata does not end at the Piz Selva plateau, it is just a good resting place.
Here it’s time to decide which option to choose.
For the more adventurous, I often offer the option of returning via a steep and exposed abseiling route towards the 2nd Sella Tower. A unique experience end perhaps the perfect introduction to alpine mountaineering.
If you prefer the normal way back along the valley Val Lasties, the ascent continues in the direction of Piz Miara with a second, easier part of via ferrata. Afterwards we follow a beautiful hiking trail and easy via ferrata down into the valley Val Lasties. As soon as we reach the main road a hiking trail takes us back to the parking lot at the Sella Pass.
You can find a packing list here. I will be happy to provide any missing equipment such as helmet, harness or the via ferrata set.
